What Are Metadata?

Metadata help structure knowledge more effectively and make it easier to find. Different types are available:

  • Labels: Thematic categorization (e.g., mechanical or electrical errors, variants for different machine models).

  • Tools: Required aids, tools, or equipment for analysis, troubleshooting, or performing routine tasks.

  • Skills: Necessary qualifications or expertise that are required.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety equipment for secure working.

  • Template Types: Groupings for templates and linkages.

Each entry always has a title and optionally a description.

Central Management

Central management gives you an overview of all metadata. To access it, open the Knowledge Hub and select Metadata from the menu on the left. Here you can:

  • Create and edit metadata

  • View usage frequency (references)

  • Delete or merge duplicates (existing assignments remain intact)

Assigning Metadata

The actual assignment takes place in the forms when creating new entries. New metadata can also be created directly there.

  • Template types are specified when creating templates and chains.

  • Causes and symptoms can be tagged with labels, tools, and skills.

  • Routines can be labeled, while routine steps can include tools, skills, and PPE.

Using Metadata

Once captured, metadata are available in different places:

  • Labels: For filtering and narrowing down topics (e.g., in troubleshooting or routines).

  • Tools, skills, and PPE: As supplementary information in the relevant steps or content.
